Installation slow

Vote 0 Votes

Hi there

I'm trying to install Movable Type on my Debian server, but I can't even get past the first stage of setup. The mt-check.cgi script runs fine and tells me I have all the required perl modules, plus the MySQL module for the database, but when I try to run the mt-wizard.cgi script to install MT It takes exactly 181 seconds to run and tells me it cannot find the mt-static folder, but when I browse to the URL, it tells me mt-static - OK.

All folders have 777 permission and are owned by the www-data user. What am I missing here?

  • Have you installed mt-static in a non-standard folder?

I've installed MT4.21 recently several times on the same server (just checking various things, making mistakes, burning my install and starting over). Each time it's taken me less than five minutes from start to finish, usually closer to three.

I don't upload each MT file one by one. I upload the tarball or zip (there was, if I remember right, a line somewhere advising this), then, through my Control Panel, access the FileManager and unpack/extract the tarball or zip file. That sets all permission correctly and preserves the structure. Then just run the wizard (assuming you've got your MySQL DB set up before, of course).

  • Thanks for the reply. I've installed it as simply as I can. I've extracted the tarball to the web root and then launched the installer.

  • Just checking: should all folders have permissions set to 777? I thought only mt-static and plugins folders need to be set to this.
