Using 4.2-en (final). Error is only with these templates, though the error is almost identical to one thrown by the "Universal" templates in 4.2-rc12 (see: [error reports on this forum] (http://forums.movabletype.org/2008/05/two-errrors-on-42rc1.html "DBI.pm errors with Universal templates")).

I run a web server and MT installation for my wife and a couple of friends, who maintain a handful of blogs of varying sizes and complexity. We've been running MT 3.17 for years now, and I've finally got them on side to migrate to 4.2

To ease the transition, I cloned the MT installation and MySQL DB schema, and ran the upgrade process in the "parallel universe", which was fortunate because I'm striking a few problems with one blog in particular which is content-light but customization-heavy.

In particular, it barfed on the MTCommentsFields tag, and told me that I should replace that with an include of the "Comment Form" template. I made the change, but now it's choking because there IS no "Comment Form" template. In fact, a large number of the default templates listed in the docs don't appear to have been created in the upgrade process.

I read in another forum thread that one can use the "Refresh Templates" action to load the default templates, but I I have tried that without success - a number of other templates were created, but not "Comment Form", nor many of the others listed at http://www.movabletype.org/documentation/designer/movable-type-41-default-templates.html

Am I missing something here, or do I really have to manually cut-and-paste the contents of the missing modules from the linked examples on that page?

Also, the archives page remains empty even once the forum starts to fill up.

They don't play well together--if you use one, the other won't show up.

The conflict is in their respective perl files, MyBlogs.pl and DashOff.pl, which are bundled with the plugins.

Both of them use variable with the same name: my @blogs / $blogs, and my $perms / $perms

Assuming that you want to use both of them at once (who wouldn't?), you need to change the names of these two parameters (perhaps only the first, but I haven't bothered to test that) in one of the two files.

Therefore, in DashOff.pl for instance, you should change every occurrence of $blogs to something else, like $blogset, change my @blogs to my @blogset; and similarly change my $perms / $perms to my $perms2 / $perms2

Once you've done that, both work together.

I've started a blog from scratch based on 4.2 Pro (with the MidCentury theme) and one of the first things I did was remove the cruft from my URLs (for entries, archives). While doing so, I ran into some annoyances, and I want to make sure I'm not missing anything:

1) Under Preferences -> Publishing -> Archive Options, I changed the file extension to blank to get rid of the .html in my URLs (http://domain.com/2008/08/foo.html becomes http://domain.com/2008/08/foo). This only worked if I also manually added 'DefaultType text/html' to my .htaccess file, otherwise the file called 'foo' in the 08 folder won't be interpreted as HTML by the web server/browser. No rocket science here, but MT did nothing to point this out, or handle it for me.

2) The default archives URL ends in archive.html. I wanted http://domain.com/archives, so I changed the output filename for my archive index to 'archives/index.html'. However, now every template that uses includes index.html, instead of the cleaner 'http://domain.com/archives'. Instead of editing all the templates, I solved this by using just 'archives' as the output file name, and relying on the previous DefaultType, but in both cases now, my URLs no longer work if you add a slash after them, since in the case of the entries and archive pages at least, they're not folder anymore.

I can address the trailing slash issue with a mod rewrite of course.

When I tried to rebuilt I got the following error:

An error occurred publishing entry 'Do I Need To Go Pro?': Publish error in template 'Entry': Error in <mtInclude> tag: error in module Related: Publish error in template 'Related': Error in <mtentryiftagged> tag: Error in <mtsetvarblock> tag: Error in <mtentries> tag: You have an error in your 'tag' attribute: Movable Type OR Upgrade

After reading all about tags (http://www.movabletype.org/documentation/author/tagging-entries-and-pages.html) I went through all my tags and added quotes, rebuilt all the entries that had those two-word tags, re-added the mt include tag to the entry template, and got the same error.

I’m not sure where I went wrong, and have wasted an entire afternoon trying to get it to work. Any help would be appreciated.

I've just upgraded to 4.2 (nice, btw, almost flawless process)...

On my project list is to go through my templates and try to streamline things a bit, a part of which process is to comb through my stylesheet and ditch what I can of stuff that's left in there since like 2.x and no longer in use.

On a global search (BTW, under 4.1 the global template search would always 500 error, now it works) for "banner-commentspop", for instance (which I assume used to be used in the comment and trackback pop-up window that is no longer in use) I have found it located in a whole bunch of old templates on several blog: TrackBack Listing Template, Comment Listing Template, Comment Error Template, Comment Pending Template.

Thing is, though, that when I look at the template lists for these blogs, these templates are not listed. They can only be accessed through the search screen.

I assume these are old system templates or something that are no longer in use but that the system has changed so as to make them inaccessible or something, and that the search engine is actually coming up with. Something like that maybe? Think I'm safe to check them all off and delete?

I've just upgraded to 4.2 and the mt:Entries attribute recentlycommentedon doesn't seem to be working for me any more.

I have a test template like this:

But it outputs nothing, despite there being comments on the site recently (eg here http://www.pepysdiary.com/archive/1665/08/12/ )

Have I made some stupid mistake or can anyone else replicate this?

Also, am I imagining things, or did the value for recentlycommentedon used to be the number of entries to display, rather than "the number of days to use to limit the selection"? http://www.movabletype.org/documentation/appendices/tags/entries.html

Thanks.
