Error 500

When I try to publish my site, I get this:

Error 500 - Internal server error
An internal server error has occured!
Please try again later.

This started suddenly yesterday. I didn't do anything to precipitate an error.

Any ideas?

Modify Admin Backend

How would I approach modifying the administrative backend tool for Movable Type? Is there a set of files that I need to look at? Is there online documentation available? I am interested in adding additional fields to some of the sections.

I am using Movable Type version 4.21-en.

Refeed required library problem?

I've installed the dependent modules (DBFile, Encode, Feed-Find, URI-Fetch, XML-Feed) and placed them in installpath/extlib.

When Refeed tries to run, the Activity log says: Error during task 'Check for updates to feeds (Refeed)': DB_File object version 1.814 does not match bootstrap parameter 1.817 at /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8/i386-linux-thread-multi/ DynaLoader.pm line 253. Compilation failed in require at /home/virtual/site50/fst/var/www/html/adam/cg i-bin/MT-4.2-en/tools/../plugins/Refeed/refee d.pl line 43.

The various " " that are in the paths are there in the log, and I've noticed them with other items in the Activity log. If I'm interpreting the log entry properly, it's saying that the version of DB_File I'm using (1.817) doesn't match a parameter that DynaLoader is looking for - and since DynaLoader is part of the Perl install, and it's a shared host......

Anyone have any thoughts? Hopefully I'm missing something and can actually make this work.

'fold' or drop down menu for categories ?

The 2 big sites I am converting to MT from WP have over 100 categories and sub-categories.

Final plans will mean each blog is over 1,000 category/subs on one, and over 3,000 on the other.

The large one is about drive-in movie theaters. 50 states, and the towns/cities that had one or more drive-ins. So, 50 main categories under 'state' category, then each state category has 1-500 sub-categories.

Community Blog vs. Community Forum

I'm still having trouble grasping the distinction between the two. Do they both have a similar backend structure, but just present the information two different ways? Both let users create their posts (forum/blog) where other people can leave replies/comments.

Is there a fundamental difference I'm missing? Or could I effectively mimic a Community Forum with custom templates on a Community Blog and vice versa?

Registration Across Blogs

I've just enabled commenter registration and am wondering whether there's a way to have it be one registration that works across all blogs in an installation. Currently, it appears the registration works for the current blog, but the person needs to re-register for each blog on the system, or have it manually enabled.

This is confusing and annoying and clutters the User list as each user is listed multiple times -- once for each blog. At least it would be nice to have a super commenter role or something, or some way to enable commenting for all blogs across a system by default. I wonder if there's something I'm missing, or some work around?

Movable Type 4 and Nokia Lifeblog

Hello,

First, sorry for my bad English. It is not my native language.

I installed Movable Type 4 on my server, because I hoped to use it with Nokia Lifeblog and my Nokia N95.

I got a working connection using this tutorial:

Unfortunately, I have problems with SMS and text items. All I get is a link to a text file. I had hoped, I would be able to write an text item and post it as a normal blog entry.

Emailing an Entry

How are people achieving this these days? I realize the old built-in thing is long since deprecated, and it would be easy to create a plain mailto email link that auto-filled the subject and such, but many people use yahoo and gmail and the like these days.

So how are people achieving an email this entry feature that emails an entire post but isn't so susceptible to spam abuse? Any suggestions?

Two Errrors on 4.2rc1

Hi,

I have received two errors. One while installing and one when publishing initial site.

The first error while installing is at this phase:

Database Configuration

Your database configuration is complete. You may proceed to the next step.

Below that install step is:

Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 Got an error: Statement has no result columns to bind (perhaps you need to successfully call execute first) at /var/www/tracyphillips.com/www/public/mt/extlib/Data/ObjectDriver/Driver/DBI.pm line 119.

The second error is when I try to publish with the new template set:

Installing MT on Hostgator

I've tried to have this question answered before, but never got a response. I want to install MT 4.1 onto my website, which is hosted by Hostgator.
There have been problems in the past regarding installing it correctly. The last time I tried, I had it installed, but couldn't enter ANY information. It's as if the entry fields were all grayed out. Is there something special I need to do to get this to work properly? HG will fix it for $50.00, but I'm not about to spend that much money to find out it was one command line that got screwed up. Any kind of help, any at all, would be greatly appreciated.

Hacker activity in Activity Log?

I just noticed this morning that I have been getting strange activity in my Activity Log.

There are several entries that look like this (it's the Dutch version, translation followe):

Update van geplande taken (IP: 24.14.223.183) YWAM Europe 24.14.223.183 12 minutes ago Volgende taken moesten uitgevoerd worden: Vervaldatum spam-map

Which translated to "Update to planned tasks", IP, blog name, etc. and then: "The following tasks should be carried out: Spam folder expiration date"

Does anyone know what this is? Has anyone else had this? It makes me think that someone is trying to hack my blog to allow spam in some way.

Initialising Database... error during installation

Hi, I'm experiencing a problem when installing movable type. When I click on Finish Install after finishing usernames etc, all i get is, at the top: Initialising Database, then in the box, "Welcome" and at the bottom, "Error During Installation:"

Any idea whats going wrong? Thanks.
