Convert html templates to php

I'm using 4.2 rc2.

In the past I've always been able to convert my index and archive files to php with no problem. I would typically go the publishing settings and change html to php. Then I would rename each of the two files that showed html as an extension to then show php as the extension.

Well now, with a new install I attempt the same process, rebuild, and I get a 500 Internal Server Error for both files. For me, my install seems to only work when I use html extensions for those two files.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Thank you in advance.

Edit Comments from "spam" to "unapproved" BUG?

I upgraded successfully from 4.1 to 4.2 RC2. So far everything seems to work great, and there is a huge improvement in performance and rebuilding speed.

One thing I have noticed that is not working for me is Editing Comments. Sometimes a comment is flagged as Spam. When I click on it to mark it as "Unapproved", nothing happens. It just stays on "Spam". The only workaround I have found is to first "Approve" it, then "Unapprove" it.

This might be a bug.

Publishing error w/ 4.2 rc2 "... at ... DBI.pm line 119."

Posted a note about this as a reply in the 4.1 forum. Clearly it goes over here.

We just ran into the same publishing error that was reported in the 4.1 forum: "close Statement has no result columns to bind ... at ... /Driver/DBI.pm line 119."

(So far) it only occurs on one of our blogs -- a test blog using the "Universal Template Set" on MT 4.2 rc2.

Just tried making a fresh new test with the Universal set and got the same thing. Symptoms ran like this for both "Universal" blogs:

Ran a "publish all" on a blog set with the Universal Template Set.

Long delay in getting control back at the browser.

On the server the mt.cgi instance doing this build is using 90%+ of RAM for over two real minutes and is averaging 3-5% of CPU on 2 second intervals.

Ca. 1 minute+: message comes back from server to the browser reporting the above error "... at ... DBI.pm line 119".

Same mt.cgi process (by proc ID) still running on the server. At about 4-5 minutes it stops running. No errors reported in the server system logs but the HTTPD error log reports a timeout -- though not clear if it's related: [Sun Jun 22 15:26:58 2008] [error] [client 71.XXX.XXX.13] (70007)The timeout specified has expired: apcontentlengthfilter: aprbucketread() failed, referer: http://[XXX]/mt/mt.cgi?mode=cfgentry&blogid=39&type=blog&id=39&saved=1

Subsequent build attempts gets the same error message, but it comes back in a normal amount of time for an MT publish and the server shows no more than the usual MT stress.

The above is identical for both events with the "Universal" set except that in the first instance I didn't start watching the server load until my associate informed me of "something weird happeing when [she] tried to publish universal".

We've been having similar all-memory load issues with 'comments' in MT 4.0 ... 4.2 rc2 so all here are primed to watch for "something weird" when working with the new MT.

Just reported it as a bug -- as was requested in the 4.1 forum -- but we're hoping that somebody else has seen the problem and knows how to get around it.

Trying to get Post Office to work

I'm sure this is probably a "me" issue and not a program issue, but hopefully someone can figure it out.

Is there any way to know if I put all the e-mail configuration stuff into the plugin correctly? Will it give me an error if it can't access the account I'm sending it to?

Also, the plugin instructions say to use an e-mail address that is given on the "write entry" page. But that address isn't an address I've set up, it's the address but with a number attached to it, what do I do with that number? It isn't part of the address I set up so anything I send won't go anywhere.

And my last issue (I'm just full of problems today apparently) is that in the install instructions it says to make sure I have an API password selected in MT (my understanding is that it should be under preferences under user) but there is no such field. Clearly I am doing something wrong or don't have an option selected somewhere that I need, but I'm having a heck of a time finding it.

Anyway, I appreciate any help and I'm feeling very embarrassed for acting so noobie-ish! I've been using MT for years and I feel horrid when I have problems with it that I can't figure out myself!

Suggestions for static-path structures and have I done something evil

mtos42rc2 LAMP fresh db with restore from 3.34 mysqldump

I'm experimenting with directory structures and have come up with the following:

File path structure:

/www/one/mtcgi/
/www/one/mtstatic/
/www/one/mt_pages/

http://one.mtengine.com/ ==> /www/one/mtpages/
http://cog1.mtengine.com/ ==> /www/one/mtcgi/
http://cog1static.mtengine.com/ ==> /www/one/mt_static/

I thought this looked sound. None of the published URIs expose the filesystem and the path to web pages is completely isolated from the path to cgi scripts.

Question: could it be a problem for cgi and static to not share a same resolvable root? Could this mess up some interface javascript? Is there any assumption on the part of the dev team that the two directories share a same root?

Cheers:-)

Dialog and entry editor go blank

I've been having this weird series of JavaScript errors with a number of different browsers except for IE. I will often get the dialog boxes and entry editor blanked out and will see error messages in the Firefox 3 error console saying stuff like:

Error: Permission denied to get property HTMLDocument.open
Source File: http://www.codemonkeyramblings.com/mt/mt-static/mt.js?v=4.2rc2-en
Line: 396

Thing is, when I hit "refresh global templates," it works just fine again for a while. I'm not sure what's triggering this problem. My database should be relatively clean since I rebuilt it from scratch with an export file sometime after I upgraded to 4.1. Has anyone else seen this bug? While this is a screenshot from Opera, this happens in Safari and Firefox as well:

Transition from 4.1 Publishing queue

In 4.1 I`ve had publishing queue enabled for the blog and there was runperiodictask.pl in daemon mode, so it takes some time to publish an entry of comment - up to a minute with all rebuilds.
Now I did an upgrade to 4.2 RC2 and there is no checkbox about publishing queue, publishing speed really increases, so all templates are set to publish statically and I killed runperiodictask.pl. And then I found that all new entries publishing stopped. Sometimes new entry looks like scheduled (however, I did not post it so), sometimes it looks published, but no pages are created or rebuilded.
It looks like MT remembers about publishing queue though I do not see a single setting about it. Any ideas where I have to uncheck a box or smth?

Blog manage users - other problems

In the main Manage Users page for a blog, there is no "Roles" column. You have to select a filter to see the roles.

Let's say I am my own blog administrator, but not a system administrator. I add a different user to my blog as a Commenter. I see him added, but there is no roles column (as above). So I click on the Commenters Quickfiler, and it says "No users could be found". So I click on the Authors Quickfiler, and he is there with role as a Commenter. This doesn't seem right.

Now let's say I want him as a Designer, not a Commenter. So I click on "Add a user to this blog". (This should really be named "Grant permissions for users on this blog" so it isn't so misleading). I select the user and on the Select Roles page. It doesn't have his Commenter role checked, so I can't remove it. So, anyway I give him a Designer role. I click on the Quckfilters:Authors and so I can see the roles (It seems strange that he is classified an Author when he does not have the Author role). I notice there is a little cross by Commenter role. I hoover over it and the tooltip is "Remove this r..." ("r..." instead of "role"). I click on it and it asks me if I am sure. I say OK but it does nothing (I am using Firefox 2 under Centos Linux 5.1). The only way I can change the permissions is to remove the user completely from the blog and grant permissions from scratch.

I really, really hope that the users and permissions part of the system gets thoroughly reviewed and tested before 4.2 is officially released.
