Hello,
Recently I had to restore my computer via a complete clean installation. I use Windows 7, so I used the transfer tool supplied with windows to back up my user settings. Everything worked out just fine. However, the link I had in my favorites folder to my Movable Type login to my control panel is not working. I keep getting a message as follows:
An error occurred
Connection error: Access denied for user 'ralopezc'@'localhost' (using password: YES)
Does anyone out in Movable Type world know why this is happening? Does anyone have the remedy for me to access my Blog's control panel? I cannot log into my account to work on my blog.
Thank you
Richard

Hi Richard,
That error suggests that the password from inside your "mt-config.cgi" file is wrong.
You may like to reset your mysql database password and to set the new one inside your "mt-config.cgi" file.
Also, I would imagine that your installation is on the web, not on your local machine.
To conclude, I would say that this error message doesn't have anything to do with the fact that you've restored your computer.
Kind Regards,
Mihai Bocsaru

Hello,
I have the same problem as mentioned above. When I click the big 'Log in to Movable Type' button I immediately get an error message:
Connection error: Access denied for user 'sharkfor'@'localhost' (using password: YES)
I have reset the mysql database password and set the new one inside my 'mt-config.cgi' file as recommended above.
Unfortunately, the problem persists.
Any idea what I should try next?
Hi Sarah,
We may be on the verge of discovering something.
I experienced the error yesterday. The server has been running for ages with no config changes and very little use.
My guess is that the issue is with the version of MT I'm running. I thought is was an up to date version of MT4.x but now I can't login to find out.
The error also lists "BaseCache.pm line 320"
Best,
Dug
Hi Mihai,
I'm in the process of rebuilding my box, re-installing MT etc.
Turns out the version of MT that malfunctioned was 4.21 her's the output form mt-check:
System Information

It's a very low-use server so I never bother to upgrade. Presumably there's a list of vulnerabilities for 4.21?
The logon to the box wasn't compromised but it was showing disk IO and traffic spikes.
Curious to hear what version Sarah is running?
Best,
Dug

Hi Dug,
You should immediately upgrade to v4.38, because earlier versions are affected by a series of security vulnerabilities, apart from all kind of other bugs.
Thanks,
Mihai
