Link target to div

Vote 0 Votes

Hi everyone, I'm doing a website, came to MT because at Wordpress I got so many issues that I give up.

So, I'm doing this website that the blog is just part of it. The blog is the 4th link at menu bar.

I have this horizontal menu and a div named "box" under it. I want all my content open inside this div box.

I'm having this problem to target the menu links, it all open at another page.

What is the code for target at MT?

Thanks for read.

  • Hi Tex,

    Welcome to movable type's community!

Your question isn't related to movable type but with html/css/js.

It seems that you want your action to be based on divs that show/hide content, like a jquery toggle mechanism which to display the result on the same page, not to have each menu item direct the user to an individual URL where that page content is displayed.

This is what I've understood and I won't encourage you to do it like that, but to have each page on its own URL for SEO purposes.

Otherwise, you may like to consult the jQuery library for toogle divs.

    Kind Regards,

  • Thanks Mihai,

I just realized that a moment after I post. Google for "how to target links to divs" and the answer came just like yours.

I really pray for MT has this kind of thing, would be really great!

I'll do the old way. Thanx again!

  • You're welcome!

This type of thing doesn't depend on the CMS.

You could grab the logic and integrate it into the CMS easily.

So you would do a mockup offline until you get it to work as you wish, and then you integrate it within movable type.

But it isn't recommended for SEO purposes.

You would like search engines to index your content and for that you would need to have a specific URL for each.

On a side note I could see that your site is running on v3.35 which is very old (over 5 years old).

Consider upgrading either to v4.38 or v5.13.

    Thanks,
    Mihai

  • Yes, I know that my site is running older version of MT. The version 4 has so many mistakes that I just stay on 3.35, and it's white and clean.

I'm doing my sister website and install the new one on her server. What a difference!

I have little problems with those, but I guess I can figure out. If not, I'll research on forum.

I'll upgrade my site the moment I finish hers.

  • Alright, Tex!

I will be around to give you a hand, if you get stuck.

    Cheers,
    Mihai

If you need to share template code, replace all the "<" signs with "<" or use this utility.
