The subject line really says it all... is there any information on this anywhere?
I am pretty good at reading manuals and figuring out how to modify things and make it work with some instructions to work from, but I know very little about the innards of MT5.
If there are any manuals or guides out there somewhere, they'd be really helpful.
Thank you.

Hi Edward,
In order to be able to create one or more forums, you should be running movable type professional, not the open source version.
The forum application is a template set called "community forum". In order to create a blog in movable type v5.x you have to first create a classic or professional website and after that to create one or more "child(ren) blog(s)" as "community forum" under that website.
Apart from setting it up as "community forum", modifying it is just as modifying any other blog.
There is no specific documentation for the forum, because there is nothing different from any regular blog, other than the name of the template set, which is "community forum".
The movable type documentation could be found at:

So there is no way to specify sub-forums, manage read/write rights on a per-forum basis or any of the other functions normally associated with forums?
If true, calling it a forum seems a gross overstatement. What you've just described to me is a blog that people can add comments to.
Hi Edward,
Indeed, this is not a forum in the sense of a full featured one like say phpBB or vBulletin.
However, it is a blog with the skin of a forum.
It follows the logic of a forum, while not offering all the functions available inside a forum.
Of course you could have main categories and sub-categories which to emulate the forum/sub-forum functions from a forum solution like phpBB.
You could manage permissions from within the user management movable type function. And you could also create groups of users to manage permissions in bulk.
I would conclude saying that the "community forum" template set is meant to offer only the main features of a forum, which is to allow people to open threads and to allow anybody else to provide replies.
There are many people that I know and that are using it and they are very happy.
Of course, if you want a solution which is dedicated to forums, you would choose phpBB, vBulletin or other more versatile solutions.
Kind Regards,
