Hi there,

I'm currently "hunting" for a good Blog system for my own website. I am currently redesigning it with a new look and feel. I looked at some and tried others, but Movable Type looks more like what I'm after.

However, before I start going all mighty with the CSS and other things, my programming background is quite limited, therefore, I would like to ask, if is it possible or extremely hard to implement the MT blog into my own web page design?

To better illustrate what I mean, this is an image showing what I'm asking:

Can I insert the MT blog into the pink box?

  • Yes, you could integrate the movable type driven blog within the pink box from the mockup you've mentioned above.

You could even integrate your other pages within movable type, if you would like.

Those pages could be "Pages" under the parent website and the blog could be a child blog for the parent website, with entries as blog articles.

You would see these notions as soon as you start playing with movable type.

  • Hi Mihai,

Thank you for your reply, I will certainly have to try that out.
I did some digging, according to http://blog-software.findthebest.com/compare/44-45/Movable-Type-vs-Nucleus-CMS

MT doesn't support video?? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm going to install it and come back in a sec.

Thank you for your reply Mihai.
    Appreciated.

  • Hello to you!

That comparison isn't really precise. Movable Type comes in with a couple of premade template which are called "template sets".

I don't understand the statement that movable type "doesn't support video". I have no idea what whoever did that comparison had in mind, but you could definitely upload a video to your server from within movable type and then integrate a video player to play it.

There are also plugins to support that, or you could do a custom job yourself. I prefer to do it in a custom way and integrate whatever player I want.

    Kind Regards,

  • Hi Mihai,

I'm having a problem installing MT,

I get the error below when I get to http://www.mduque.com/cgi-bin/mt/mt.cgi

    Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@mduque.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
    Apache/1.3.42 Server at www.mduque.com Port 80

Also, in the installation guide from:
    http://www.movabletype.org/documentation/installation/configuration-wizard.html

I'm stuck at point 6. , I keep getting the error above.

I have the following file mt-config.cgi-original in /public_html/cgi-bin/mt , after renaming the mt-config.cgi (taking the -original word out), still doesn't work.

    Appreciated for any help.

    Thank you

  • Hi Mihai,

I sent a message previously but it is being pending by the moderator, not sure why. Meanwhile, I was looking around and found a thread where you describe to go into mt-config file and change it manualy. I did but still doesn't work and I get an error about forbidden.

Any help or way you can help me is much appreciated Mihai.
    Thank you.

"Hope this message doesn't get pending..." :))

  • Well, if you get the forbidden message it means that the place where you've uploaded the MT .cgi files is not really the /cgi-bin/ folder.

You may like to look at your site path and find the folder that the hosting created for you to place .CGI scripts.

On some platforms that folder is above the root.

If you provide me FTP access via email I should be able to figure that our for you.
