It works excellent with even more broader attendance.
I don't have authorization to mention a couple of projects from their owner (didn't bother to ask), but I could assure you that some of my customers are having very popular networks of blogs running from a single movable type installation.
One of the most poular one generates 4.5 million hits a month, which is about 3 times what you are mentioning / day.
Another one generates 2.7 million hits a month, which is almost double what you are mentioning.
They also get a lot of comments every day from these visitors.
The installation with 4.5 million hits includes more than 100k entries and about 900k comments.
