Getting 500 error on publishing

Vote 0 Votes

Hi,

I just installed MT5, and I can access the dashboard, but whenever I try to publish the site I get a 500 Internal Server Error. It does seem to create pages (I can see them in the pages tab), and I can access them on the browser. I still don't have a home page, or a blog.

When I try to create a new blog, I get this error: "No handle/phrase".

I added this to the mt-config.cgi file (I saw it in a forum), but didn't help:

DBUmask 0022
HTMLUmask 0022
UploadUmask 0022
DirUmask 0022
HTMLPerms 0777
UploadPerms 0777

Any ideas?

Thanks

  • Hi,

It looks like your hosting provider doesn't share enough resources with their shared customers, or at least not enough for movable type to be able to do its job.

What hosting provider are you using?

    Kind Regards,

  • I'm with Dreamhost, but just for testing. What I ultimately want to do is upgrade a site currently running MT4 to MT5.

I guess I should better install MT5 parallel to MT4 on the real server...

I'll try to test somewhere else... I was just hoping I wouldn't have to do that.

    Thanks

  • I would say that you may like to indeed install MT5 on parallel to MT4 on the real server.

Alternatively, you could clone MT4 and then upgrade it to MT5 on the real server, but under a different path, until you are sure that all is good.

Last, but not least, you could hire a professional like me to handle the job on your behalf ;)

    Cheers,
    Mihai

  • Thanks Mihai,

I looked at your site, and your upgrade fees seem quite reasonable.

I'll have the blog owner (my husband) take a look and MT5, and if he likes it (he's very reluctant to change), we'll might contact you.

    Thanks for all your help

  • You are welcome!

I would be pleased to handle the upgrade for you.

If you need to share template code, replace all the "<" signs with "<" or use this utility.
