Merging two websites with separate databases into one

Vote 0 Votes

Hi,
We recently upgraded our MovableType version from v4.26 to v5.12. We see that v5 has the necessary features to maintain 2 websites - with different publishing urls on the same database/movabletype instance. Our setup on v4.26, has 2 databases (so 2 config files switched by the use of vhosts.d file), when upgrading we maintained the same organization on v5.12 too. Also, the CGI directory for the 2 instances is the same though we store the static files separately.

Now that the new version has the support for multiple websites can we merge the 2 instances into one database? if so, what are the main details that need attention while merging the two. I understand the changes should all be restricted to the database and a script should help? Once the database merged the static pages could be easily merged too.

Any comments, help would be appreciated!

  • Hi Naveen,

I would recommend you to use the Export feature from your second v5.12 installation and then to import that on your first v5.12 installation.

Of course, as a safety measure, you should backup both installations' databases before starting this operation.

    Kind Regards,
