I'm totally new to MT and just installed it on my hosting account.
Installing it, I was puzzled by MT's "website" concept.
I already have a website which I hand coded in HTML and CSS.
So I don't need the website, just the blog - which would be not on the landing page, e.g. www.example.com/my_mt_blog.
Can you just delete the website in MT's dashboard? I filled it in because it seemed to be mandatory, but of course I can't click "publish" as it would probably destroy the website that's alread there.
My question: how do I proceed? Delete the "website" in MT? Leave it there, just not to publish?

Yes, just leave it there and don't publish it.
If you want to be extra safe, go to Design > Templates for the website and delete all of them. That way, even if you publish the website, it won't actually publish any files.
Note: be careful to delete the templates for the website, not for the blog! Hint: if the navigation bar is all green, you are on website level. If it is part green, part blue, you are on blog level.
