I have several blogs on my MT4.35 installation. Except for minor color changes, they're all almost identical.

http://www.crabapplelane.net/dulog/
http://www.crabapplelane.net/divasaurs/
On the three above, I can publish the indexes in 25-40 seconds and comments post slower than I'd like but not too, too bad. The last two are inactive but the first one isn't.
On the one below, publishing the indexes take anywhere from 1:15 to 4 minutes and comments are excruciatingly slow to publish. I've tried removing widgets, removing plugins, and removing links in the entries. Nothing seems to speed it up.

What to try next? I'm at wit's end.

It looks like that third blog has a ton of entries (1000+) so it might be that the archive listing is taking very long to build: http://www.crabapplelane.net/blog/archives.html
Every time you publish something, that entire list probably gets recreated. I would be surprised if it took less than ten, fifteen seconds, and even that would probably be fast.
Have you looked into background publishing, or trimming down the archives page (for example, removing the individual entry links would probably save lots of time during publication)?
The first blog (ftb_blog) has 1400+ entries and the same archiving configuration and it publishes quickly.
I don't need that archives page for anything. How do I eliminate it?
OK, thanks. Rebuilding has been sped up. Comments are still way too slow, though. I thought speeding up one would help the other. Not so.
Just noticed that comment posting is not very fast here, either.
ALL issues resolved. Thanks.
