Perl crashes from movabletype

Vote 0 Votes

Hi,

I recently noticed my web disk space being used up quickly and according to my web hosting provider they claim that I am getting alot of perl crashes on my web server. Below is what my web hosting support reported to me. They provided me with a link to the latest core dump to download and debug. I do not know how to fix this. What can I do to prevent this from crashing ongoing?

Also, I am using www.mddhosting.com as my web server. I've never had any issues with them until recently. Their server are using lite speed technology which I do not know if that is a problem or not. Please advise, thank you!

You have a large number of perl crashes from movabletype:
-rw------- 1 changtwo changtwo 50M Feb 14 07:40 core.15048
-rw------- 1 changtwo changtwo 50M Feb 8 12:57 core.12621
-rw------- 1 changtwo changtwo 50M Feb 14 07:44 core.19448
-rw------- 1 changtwo changtwo 50M Feb 14 08:08 core.16582
-rw------- 1 changtwo changtwo 51M Feb 15 14:39 core.3052
-rw------- 1 changtwo changtwo 52M Feb 14 07:38 core.12365
-rw------- 1 changtwo changtwo 55M Feb 13 18:09 core.19231
There are 191 of them in the folder:
/home/changtwo/public_html/williamchang/darkroom/mt

The specific file that is crashing is:
Core was generated by `/usr/bin/perl -w /home/changtwo/public_html/williamchang/darkroom/mt/mt.cgi'.
Program terminated with signal 11, Segmentation fault.

You'll need to get with MovableType support, I'll clear all but the latest core dump (as you can provide it to them for them to debug and find the issue) and they can grab it directly at:

  • The only realistic scenario for Perl to crash is from a native code module like DBD::mysql having a serious bug. It's not Movable Type that's crashing it and it's doubtful that SixApart would be able to help you.

Ask your host if they've recently upgraded any of their Perl modules or Perl itself.

  • Mike,

My hosting company states that they did not upgrade Perl recently. I am using mddhosting.com which offer litespeed instead of Apache. I am considering on changing web hosting companies but I want to make sure I Won't be getting the same problems.

Every few days I have to manually delete those files. I have no clue that they are but that's the only way to free up disk space as I only have 20gb of disk space in total

If you need to share template code, replace all the "<" signs with "<" or use this utility.
