Reinstalling MT

Vote 0 Votes

I had to reinstall my mac's system - is there any way to get MT back up and running without going through the whole process? I have reinstalled MT itself and the modified templates I use but as most of my blog consists of photos its very tedious to reload each one.

  • If you were running it locally, then you'll have to restore everything to the state it was before (just like you would the rest of the Mac). If you were running it remotely, then why would this apply (since it'd be on a web server somewhere else)?

  • Thanks for the reply but not sure I follow you. In reinstalling stuff on the Mac many things can be copied (from eg back ups) and pasted - even preferences. Applications need to be reinstalled and I have done this with MT. But do all my photos have to be uploaded individually again and categorised and captioned, etc? It's not as if there were a few - MT is my preferred presentation
    platform for all my photos!

  • If you aren't running Movable Type on your Mac, then no.

  • I run MT on a Mac so you mean I do have to reinstall item by item?

  • If you installed it locally, then yes. Did you back up the directories on your Mac where you stored the published content?

  • When you say you run it on your Mac, you do mean that you set up a web server on your Mac and run it that way, correct?

  • Yes, the installed parts are in the Library>Webserver>CGI-Executables and Document folders.
I have backups of these folders

  • Ok, good.

As long as you have a backup of the directories where you stored the data that MT managed, you'll be good.

  • As I said earlier, I reinstalled MT from scratch and then replaced the 2 folders CGI-Executables and Documents with the backups but this does not work.

  • 1) Did you back up the directories where you uploaded your images?

    2) Did you assign yourself the same user name when you reinstalled OS X?

  • How much of your published content still works? The reason I ask is that Apache might be looking for it in a different location now after you refreshed OS X.

  • I have back ups of the previous folders. Images are in Library>Webserver>Documents>Archives

I used a different name when reinstalling OSX

  • So am I the only person on the planet who wishes to reinstall MT and associated archives on the same Mac without having to go through the lengthy process of uploading all the archives. No I didn't 'export' because my Mac crashed and I had to reinstall the system. Is it rocket science or something?

  • What is actually happening when you load up the URL for those files on your machine? Are you seeing web pages with broken images all over the place?

Did you back up the database?

If you need to share template code, replace all the "<" signs with "<" or use this utility.
