Every click directs me to mt.cgi (login)

When inside MT, every time I click anything, regardless of what it is, I get redirected to the login screen. Sometimes I have to enter my userID and PW two or three times to get logged in. I spent most of the day getting MT (5.031) reinstalled after a crash. After reading Gautam Patel's "So Long, MT5" post, I decided to download v4.34 instead. It is having exactly the same problem.

Any solutions? If not, I'm done.
