How can I change the name that appears in the "Published by" field that displays in the "Publishing" tab on the "Edit Entry" page?

  • I think what you are looking for is Ghostwriter. If not, please describe a little more. Ghostwriter allows you to publish articles as another user (who has those privileges on that blog).

  • Hi Ken,

That’s not it. I think it’s a default setting somewhere, but that’s just a guess.

On the right side of any Edit Entry page, you’ll see a tab called Publishing, which (for a published entry) says something like the following:

7 hours ago - Created by John
2 hours ago - Published by Sarah
6 hours ago - Edited by John

The problem here is that no matter who publishes the entry, the “Published by” always says Sarah, which is the field I need to modify.

  • I see, that is different.

Is Sarah the system admin or blog admin?

I notice this in my install too, 4.34. It always says published by meancode (me) but the Created by is the correct author (and the value that is stored in the database).

So, I don't really have an answer for you. For me, who it says who published it in the log does not really matter.

  • I presume Sarah is the system admin because she set up the site.

If that’s the default, how would I change it? And what do you mean by “meancode”?

  • meancode is my MT username, as Sarah would be the username in your system.

And I am sorry but I have no idea how to change it. Its a good question for someone else who has a much deeper knowledge of MT than me, Six Apart Support if you have a support plan, for example.

    Ken

  • Fwiw, our bloggers tell us the "published by" is always them, the person logged in and looking at it, no matter who actually published it. I figured it was a bug, but it doesn't affect anything so we haven't minded.

If you need to share template code, replace all the "<" signs with "<" or use this utility.
