Something strange is going on with my Movable Type, leaving both me and the hosting site technicians scratching their heads. A week or so ago I started receiving dozens and dozens of spam messages from an address in the Netherlands. I decided to turn off the comments function for a couple days, and ever since I turned it back on again and re-published (set to accept anonymous comments with a valid email address), I pretty much don't receive comments at all (went from 30-50 a day, to zero).

Have you tried posting a comment on your blog to see what your users are seeing? I would recommend clearing your cache/cookies/etc. before trying it if you have anonymous comments enabled and that is most of what you received.
Thanks, Mike . . . I did actually try posting myself, which worked just fine. (Curiously, when the tech at my hosting site tried, however, his came through but went straight to spam mail).
