Hello Everyone,
It seems to me like MT 5 was released 4 months ago and then everyone forgot about it. Does anyone else share these observations?
There seems to be zero documentation about how it really works, bug reporting, etc.
Please prove me wrong by directing me to some secret awesome bug-reporting, documentation-sharing, plugin-developing forum for MT 5 that I haven't found yet.

Reported on Movable Type 5
It is not dead and people at Six Apart are working on it.
The overall architecture is changed and thus it requires quite some time to evaluate it and make all the details public.
I've always recommended people to not upgrade to v5.x until this release is seriously evaluated.
Yup Mihai, just as i think.
Movable Type 5 is not dead by any stretch of the imagination.
To answer a few of your questions:
Does this help?
I'd logged into the bug system in the last couple weeks and couldn't find anything...
Turns out that your post is the first I've heard about the code name "Hyperion" for MT 5.
Shouldn't that be more obvious?
Nevertheless, thanks for the info.

My 2 cents on this topic are that the software feels like it was rushed out, and that 6A have pushed MT way down on its priority list due to lack of profitability. I'm happy to be corrected on these assumptions.
I just tried to upgrade a couple of MT 4.3x blogs to MT 5.01 just to see how it would work (I upgraded a copy of the existing database) MT 5 just didn't work, and scrambled my Admin profile so I could make no changes to my blogs. Bizarre.
While I welcome the UI changes, I cannot for the life of me see what the purpose of the version 5 update was. I don't want to sound harsh as I know a lot of people worked hard to make this happen, but this feels like 6A's Microsoft Vista.
MT has performed admirably for me over the years, but it also requires a LOT of hours to try and figure out problems around plug-ins, etc. The community seems all over the map right now, and leadership from 6A seems to be waning.
Perhaps it's time to have open source leaders like Byrne Reese and Ben and Mina to make some kind of joint statement as to where their flagship product is going (or not). Right now the documentation, forums, and code are a dog's breakfast, and it doesn't bode well for the future.
Well Byrne has not worked at 6A for a while now and with Anil gone as well I am not 100% sure who is the 'community manager' these days.
I should have been more clear...I meant by "joint statement" the connection between the open source and commercial versions, and the future of each. I realize that there is something happening with Open Melody, but I'm not sure what that is either.
Nick, thanks for the news. I realize that MT has become a pretty amazing CMS (not just a blogging app). I use it mainly as a CMS for clients. I look forward to MT5's evolution, but will wait for now before adopting it.
Hi, all
I'm Japanese web developer and I'm getting a lot of information about MT5. (not an employee of SA)
I heard that the main development MT5 is now leaded by Japanese team, so the first stable version of Movable Type5 had been released in Japan.
Besides that, I agree the opinion that MT5 has changed drastically from MT4, and lots of MT users in the world is now confusing about the functions and an interface.
To my personal opinion, MT5 is now changing into a complex and scalable Content Management System, also a web application framework systtem, from a simple blog publishing software.
MT5 has some strong features.
One of those are enhancement of custom field functions.
In MT5, we can make all kinds of custom fields to MT's data objects - not only entries, webpages, but also categories, templates, comments, and other objects.
Also we can allows websites' visitors to enter their own comments and various kind of data.
With MT5, we can develop all kinds of web services - like multi-search-database system, estate-search system, form mail system, event application system, and so on.
I have used a bunch of CMS software, and MT5 now has a strong functions as forceful as other CMS systems.

Dave,
It's good to see someone from SixApart respond to this on-going concern. Can you, or one of your colleagues, please address the following issues:
1) http://www.movabletype.com/services/support/
There's no mention of MT 5.0. Why?
2) http://www.sixapart.com/movabletype/kb/index.html
Why is the knowledge base still based on MT 3.x?
3) http://plugins.movabletype.org/
How do I quickly and easily find out which plugins are compatible with MT 5.0?
Thanks,
Jason
Hello, everyone !
My name is Jun Kaneko, and I'm a product manager of Movable Type 5. I'm sorry if the activity around MT5 is not enough obvious to everyone, but in fact, Movable Type 5 is very active.
As Dave mentioned, we are at the final stage of releasing Movable Type 5.02 (Hyperion). Thanks to many of your reports, this release will include various bug fixes found on Movable Type 5. It will be available around the middle of May.
As the fate of any initial major release, Movable Type 5.0 is not perfect. There are many ideas, features and improvements those are waiting to be implemented. In a sense, 5.0 is the platform for the larger goal of Movable Type 5 generation.
We have just started the planning phase of Movable Type 5.1 (codename "Iliad"). I'd like to open up the discussion as early as we can. I'll post more detailed plan on MTOS-ML and MT.org wiki within a month. There is a fogbugz fix-for already ( http://bugs.movabletype.org/default.asp?pgx=LF&ixFilter=2450 ).
Meanwhile, I appreciate your feedback on Fogbugz at anytime. All the reports and requests will be triaged every Friday, and will be assigned to the proper milestone (fix-for). Please make sure that the case is assigned to "Primary Contact (Bug Triage User)" and "Fix For Undecided". That's the place we watch for the feedback.
Jason,
Thanks for your feedback. I updated the support page. I also agree that the plugin directory requires a renewal. I confirmed that there were more than 100 plugins compatible with Movable Type 5. Some of them have been introduced by Nick at his website. I'll think the way to introduce them at MT.org.
