Temp Directory Path Shows Space - Not Writable

Vote 0 Votes

One of our content servers we have specified the temp directory in the mt.config.cgi and
permissions are 777 on the temp folder, but it looks as if movable type thinks there is a
space right before the directory specified config file when we see this error in the log.

Unable to secure lock for executing system tasks. Make sure your
TempDir location (/usr/www/users/USER/MTINSTALLLOCATION/ temp)
is writable.

See the SPACE before the / temp

It's not in the mt.config.cgi file - so where is that space coming from?

  • Hi Jay,

So you are sure that besides the space, that 'temp' folder has the right permission (777) and that the folder ownership is properly set.

What is the exact value for the TempDir directive you've specified on your mt-config.cgi file?

    Kind Regards,
    Mihai Bocsaru

  • Yes - the permissions are 777 and the line is...

    TempDir /usr/www/users/username/blogpireproductions/temp

  • Look also the the folder ownership and make sure that it is set correctly. Eventually drop a note to support[at]pair[dot]com

  • Hi, Jay (also Mihai)

Taking a glance, I guess that there is a possibility that "blogpireproductions" or "username" directory haven't a permission to be written by others.

Is these directories having a 777 permissions?

Please ignore if my comment isn't making a sense.

  • No Nick, that's not the case as Nick clearly mentioned above.

Obviously, this was the first thing we've checked and it wasn't it.

  • >Mihai,

    Okay, I got it.
So what's wrong with the case...?

I've never heard a similar case like this... hmm...

  • I didn't have an issue like that as well, so I suspect the problem is with the folder ownership.

Pair Support would fix it for Jay, as he is hosting on a dedicated server @ Pair.

    They are very reliable guys.
