I have upgraded and I cant login!

Vote 0 Votes

I am having problem with login screen - I can't login into movable blog.
I have just upgraded MT to version 5, and it went ok.. then I tried to enter username and password (which is correct-as I can see it in the database) and it is returning to login screen saying login is invalid.

I have set all cgi files to permitions 755. What can be the problem?

I have installed a fresh copy of MT 5 in new directory, but I used database from my previous installation..

What is the problem?

  • Your password is encrypted in the database - so what you see in the database, won't be the password you actually enter.

    Did the upgrade script run OK, or did you just upload the new files, and then go to login (and see the problem straight away)?

    Have you tried recovering your password from the login screen?

  • Maybe one or more tables from the database are damaged.

    You could login with phpmyadmin, select all tables and choose REPAIR TABLE

    Alternatively, you may like to reset your username password from within phpmyadmin using this command:

    select author_name, author_id from mt_author;

    (that command is for showing all authors and IDs)

    update mt_author set author_password = encrypt('foobar') where author_id = 1;

    (where 'foobar' is your username and '1' is the correct ID associated with your username)

    @maddy: You are absolutely right! I have looked the password in table: Admin and not in mt_author !

    I have now passed trough login screen thanks to Mihai (you are a genious :) )
    I have changed password using command line you said (for others 'foobar' is temporary password not username ;) )

    I have redirected to screen - upgrading database, but it stopped working, but I found an answer on http://forums.movabletype.org/2010/03/back-to-the-upgrading-database-dilemma.html and I will try this solution

    Thanks for everything, I will get back if something went wrong :)

    I have returned, just to conform it worked. I managed to enter movable blog control panel. Although was sure that I copied mt-static in binary mode, I tried to copy it again and it worked!

    Thanks maddy and Mihai for everything

  • Welcome on board Sasa!

  • Yup, wanted to say 'foobar' is password, but I was thinking about the username while I typed :)

If you need to share template code, replace all the "<" signs with "<" or use this utility.
