Custom main index page

Vote 0 Votes

Hello,

Does anyone out there know how to replace the default main index page on MT 5 with a customized index template? I changed plenty of default MT tags to suit my needs and to work with my custom style sheet. The instructions on the Roll Your Own page are not very clear to me.

Thanks
Richard

  • Hi, Richard

You are able to get your own customized index page if you replace the main index template.

I cannot see your situation clearly, but haven't you rebuild your website? Movable Type publishes web pages when you do a "rebuild" in default settings.

  • I have also encountered that problem Richard. Thanks for posting that kind of question. Hope somebody here could answer that.

  • Hi, Richard

Oops, It seems I mislead your question. Sorry and please ignore my comment.

I'd like to know your problem more exactly.

    • Ok, I would like to paste my customized html index page as my index.html template. I went ahead and did just that. I also loaded my custom stylesheet. It looked great just as I had designed it. Trouble is you could not post to it. It also was displaying 20 entries. I have it configured to post just two entries.

So I followed the directions at this site on the MT site,

       http://www.movabletype.org/documentation/designer/creating-themes-for-movable-type.html

The topic of interest on this page was under the title Roll Your Own, both styles and themes. I replaced my title of one of my entries and the permalinks plus the body content and so on down the line as the instructions stated.

Well, after publishing the site again I would get multiple entries of the one of the entries, plus anytime I posted the new post would not be styled as the rest of my entries were styled. Also the entries would keep stacking up, meaning after a couple of new enries I now had 22 entries. At other times the site formatting was completely destroyed.

I have tried several different ways and I cannot figure out exactly if I am not following the directions correctly or perhaps they are incorrect. Since I believe they are from MT 4. Since there are no directions for MT 5, according to a posting I found as I dug further into this sites themes and styles for directions.

That is why I am asking for help and clear directions if anyone has any. I would appreciate it greatly.

      Thank You
      Richard

  • Richard,

It's difficult to tell what's wrong from your description. Would you copy your template into your reply using the 'this utility' link just above this box?

If you need to share template code, replace all the "<" signs with "<" or use this utility.
