MediaTemple monthly fee for MovableType?

Vote 0 Votes

I need an explanation, how come MediaTemple charges $5.95 per month for MovableType? Isn't MovableType a free software any individual can install on their server? How is it different getting MovableType from SixApart or doing it yourself? It doesn't make sense. I've had MovableType for 2 years now on my MediaTemple grid server and have paid $71.4 a year, I rarely use it at all since I put up my blog, but not sure if I do need their support because they do not even upgrade the MovableType version on my server, as in it doesn't need day to day or month to month attention, unless I initiate a request to upgrade it doesn't happen on its own. Is anyone else with MediaTemple paying to have MovableType on their server? Is anyone not paying? I think $71.4 a year is too expensive anyway.
Thanks.

Thanks for asking this acidking, i would like to hear the answer too. I definitely love to use MoveableType if its keep free, but if i have to pay on monthly basis, i just think to move on another CMS

  • I checked it, it's free. Still don't know why MediaTemple charged me per month though, for 3 years. I am worried there may be other people who signed up for MovableType through MediaTemple and are still being charged for it.

  • There is a paid and a free version of MT.

  • Where acan I find more about the free and paid versions of MT?
