I'm trying to edit some template code in MT5 Pro Beta RC3 using Safari 4.0.3 in MacOS X 10.6.1, and I find that the editor keeps doing things I did not ask it to do! For example:
1) Jumping around randomly
Sometimes when I enter a line of code and press ENTER to the next line, the editor repositions the cursor somewhere else in the template code causing me to lose my place! Really annoying
2) Inserting code snippets on its own
The editor gets in the way of inserting the HTML comment signifier, i.e., ""
Steps to reproduce: I find if I move the cursor to a line of code, then make sure the cursor is at the extreme leftmost position of the line, then press ENTER, then type "

I assume since there are no replies, nobody else is seeing this?
I am seeing this all the time.
I will type a blank line, try to add some HTML and get about two characters in, and suddenly the line below is copied automagically and appears to the right of my input. There's also a faint thin horizontal line above the auto-added text.
What's worse, I just encountered not only the above, but the browser popped up a dialog box saying "Are you sure you wish to re-send the form?" or something like that. All I'd typed were alphabetic characters.
The editor is seriously buggy. Is anyone at MT paying attention?
Do you encounter the issues with other browsers?
Unfortunately Safari is not on the list of supported browser of MT5. There will be some more fixes in the future release so it might help.

There is also a plugin that disables codemirror.

Just to be clear, MT5 should work fine with Safari. Actually, the UI designer mainly uses Safari to develop MT5.
On the other hand, supported platform is defined by
the platform which QA team conducts their test. It is now
* Mozilla Firefox 3.5 or higher
* Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher
I find the statement that the QA team are *only* testing against Firefox 3.5+ and IE6+ quite extraordinary. Safari has enough market share to be on the testing environment I would have thought. Goodness, even Opera 10 is gaining traction.
I agree. I wonder what world I have stepped into by trying to use MT5 instead of dropping MT altogether and going with (gasp) WordPress.
A buggy template editor, no Safari support, and as far as I can tell, no active community building templates (whereas WP seems to have gazillions of templates ready-built).
Bidrock, Yes ! that is exactly what MT5 should challenge. MT5 Theme is not only about the template-set. You can export/import various blog entities such as categories, folders, files, configurations, pages, etc. Theme framework inherits highly extensible MT core registry framework, and all you have to do is just writing theme.yaml file.
We are preparing the documentation wishing that this feature helps designers to create their original themes much more efficiently.
Hello Matt,
Yes, I agree with the importance of browser compatibility. We are very aware of "Progressive Enhancement" browser support, and that is the reason why we can still support IE6. We are trying to keep CSS and JavaScript as clean as possible. Probably you can see the benefit comparing to MT4 when you develop a plugin that extends MT5 app screen.
Has there been any more progress on this? It has been over a year and I am still having trouble in IE 7 and 8 with the jumping around. When posting lengthy text into the MT editor the cursor continually jumps to the top of the post. It can literally turn a simple 15 second edit like bolding or italicizing a line of text into a several minute endeavor to find the right place, keep the cursor there, and finish the formatting.
Hi mcleek21,
Yes, Movable Type 5.1 will include the syntax highlight on/off for the template editor. 5.1 is in Beta now, and will be available in a few month.
