Forum template set - mod "start a topic" to attach assets

Has anyone merged the Motion and Forum templates to use the "all media post" functionality in the Forum template? The idea is of course for users of a support forum to be able to upload screengrabs without having to log onto the cms.

I've started hacking but got lost in Javascriptyness...

Any ideas?
