iMT (iPhone plugin) for Movable Type 4.3?

Vote 0 Votes

Will iMT be updated to work with Movable Type 4.3? Compatibility on this page says 4.0, 4.1, 4.2. I was hoping that plugins by Six Apart would be kept up to date with the current version of Movable Type. I'm currently running 4.31 and after installing iMT, the plugin doesn't even show up under plugins.

This is a nice idea—and I don't disagree with it—but it's a misconception. The only plugins you should be making this assumption about are the ones actually bundled with the application. Everything else is offered as-is(generally) or under whatever terms the readme/license file for that plugin provides, if one is available.

I can't give you a definite answer either way about compatibility, because I haven't needed it on a 4.3 install yet, but: if the plugin isn't even showing up in the plugin listing at all, that's more likely an indication that you installed it incorrectly. If it were actually broken in some way, it would still be there, with a notice that it failed to load, usually even with some hint as to what the problem is.

And just to be sure since it's a common mistake, you should not be looking at a blog-level plugin listing. It won't show up there because the plugin doesn't have any blog-level settings; or any at all, for that matter. Make sure you're checking the global plugin list, from the System Overview(the background will be light green instead of blue.)

  • I have 'iPhone / iPod touc UI Support 1.02' in my global plugin list on Movable Type Pro 4.31, but sadly I don't get an iPhone-friendly interface when I open my weblog in Safari on my iPhone.

  • Breun, you should know that this iMT plugin doesn't have anything to do with your weblog interface.

The job iMT does, is to let the blog admin to login to the movable type admin and post from an iPhone.

So it is for the movable type backend, not for the generated website interface.

  • Thanks for clearing that up, Mihai. Does anyone know of a Movable Type plugin that provides a mobile version of your site like the WordPress plugin WPtouch does?
