double encoding with FastCGI

Hi,

I'm running:

movabletype-opensource/lenny uptodate 4.2.3-1
movabletype-plugin-core/lenny uptodate 4.2.3-1

and the CGI versions works just fine, but when I switch to FastCGI I get the non-ASCII characters destroyed. Actually it works for the first request after Apache reload. So it seems that "something" must be double initialized in persistent environment.

Anyone has an idea where/what to look for?
