I am going nuts trying to find the answer to a very SIMPLE question -- does MT4.3 have custom fields or not? The search function in the documentation times out or crashes consistently, and there are a lot of references to old version of MT which do not apply to MT4x.
I have read somewhere that the "pro" version of MT does offer custom fields. Not sure what they mean by "pro" because I have downloaded the free "For passionate individual bloggers" version which is listed under "Movable Type Pro" on the download page -- but I don't see anyway of defining custom fields.
Reported on Movable Type 4.3

Incidentally, yes I did see this page on custom fieds:
http://www.movabletype.org/documentation/professional/custom-fields/creation.html
It says I can make custom fields using the "Preferences" menu but I don't see that option. I am running 4.3. This is very frustrating.
The page above is correct.
If you don't see the menu option, then you either did not install the Pro version, or there's something wrong with your installation.
What exactly does your installation say it is at the bottom of the screen? It should look something like:
Specifically, custom fields are part of the Professional Pack.
So this leads to the question:-
can Community Pack 1.63, Professional Pack 1.3 be installed on top of MTOS 4.3?
I have MTOS 4.3 and didn't think to use the free version of pro, although I could have.
If this is possible I would rather do so early rather than late.

Tangentially, the situation with MT is certainly confusing.
These are observations rather criticisms. I assume that the more thought and discussion I am involved with on this topic the better I will finally understand it.
Let me explain -
....
movabletpe, MTOS 4.3 or pro?
Sorry, but because this IS so tangential I have left the rest on my blog.
Yes. It's a completely transparent upgrade. Grab MTPro(the packs are not distributed standalone) and install like any other update.
It simply says Movable Type version 4.3
No mention of packs.
Then whatever you did, you didn't download/install MTPro. That's the open source version. Upgrading is done like with any other, just install the new/different version over the previous.
