Can anyone tell me what settings in IE8 may be the reason I am constantly getting logged out of my MT? I'm using 4.2. Before I could login and write an entry, then when publishing it would log me out. Fine and dandy, the entry would finish publishing after I logged back in. Now I can't click on anything without being logged out. Just clicking on 'Write Entry' logs me out.
It's also happening in Firefox. I know there was some form of Windows (Vista) Update a day or so ago but I can't imagine this to be the cause of it. (Although such a problem like this occuring because of an update would not surprise me one bit.)
I'm thinking that under the Advanced Settings tab there is an option I can check or uncheck to keep me from getting logged out. Any and all help will be much appreciated. Thank you!

Hi Chelle,
The first thing to try is clearing your cookies for your domain. Since you're seeing the issue in two browsers, it's probably not that, but it's a good place to start.
Next, have you changed anything with MT recently? I'm specifically thinking about the CookieDomain directive, which can sometimes cause issues.
Any other info you can give would help diagnose this. I hope this helps get you started in the right direction!
Ok, is CookieDomain (url) something I add to the mt-config.cgi file? If so, is there a specific way I need to add this line?
I haven't changed anything with the config on MT.. the only thing I change are the templates for the blog itself, not the CMS, when I create a new layout. This shouldn't have any effect on the CMS.
I don't recall having the issue with IE6. I did have issues with IE7 and when I first got IE8. It would go back to the login screen when I wanted to do anything but once I logged in the second time it was fine and I could go do whatever I needed without having to login again. This includes using the 'remember me' box.
Now IE8 is logging me out for just clicking on a button or link. I can't go anywhere without being logged out. I even reset all the IE8 Advanced Tab menus (which basically takes it back to first install settings), told it to remember my login and password with IE8 AND MT's 'remember me' box, which then it logged me out again.
I see there was an update in June. The last update I remember seeing is the MT Motion update listed in my MT box from March. I didn't update to Motion because I didn't feel I needed it. I can update to the 4.261 if you think this will fix the issue. I currently have 4.24.
I love using MT and I'll put up with this issue if I can't find a solution. I can't find another CMS that is so well-made for me. Thanks so much for your help.
Okay, I've got a couple potential causes, but before I go there I noticed that performing a search on your site resulted in an error where it thinks your mt-config file is missing. I'm guessing you've been playing with things a bit, because it'd be tough to use MT without that.
As for my potential causes, another very common one is trying to access your site without the www. when you had been using it previously. If your CGIPath or StaticWebPath (both config directives) have www and you're not using it now, it will cause problems with your cookies.
Then, in rare occasions, MT can have problems writing to the mt_session table. So if the first one doesn't work, you might want to reach out to MT Support. They can dig into your system a bit (but only if you choose to give them access; there's no secret back door or anything :) to investigate the problem a bit more closely.
My MT-Config isn't working because I have temporarily renamed the file on the server. I'm upgrading to the latest version and didn't want to lose it in case I need the info it holds. I noticed when looking at the config for MT 4.261 it doesn't include the static file path or the email information. I was wondering if I needed to include that when I make the change.
I rarely use the WWW since I tend to use a subdomain for my blog. I will take the WWW out of the path for the cgi-bin and see if that works this time around. I'll should be fully upgraded soon and will update this with further questions should they arise and to let you know if upgrading and changing the WWW (or the other ideas you mentioned) work for me.
I truly appreciate your time on this. It means a lot to me.
Woohoo! Upgraded successfully to MTOS 4.261! Taking out the WWW from the paths in the mt-config.cgi file has also done the trick. I no longer get logged out at all! I am so happy. Thanks!
Awesome! Glad it's back up and running!
