Hi all, I upgraded yesterday from 4.2.3 to 4.2.5 and after a pretty normal upgrade process, I am no longer able to login to my dashboard. I continually get a 500 Internal Server Error. I have checked permissions on all the .cgi files and confirmed that they are 755, as well as the folder that they are in. I uploaded the files using ASCII mode as well.
I have been pulling my hair out for the past day trying to figure out how to fix this. I have searched the forum and have found some similar problems, but none of those solutions offered have fixed my problem.
Mt-check-cgi runs fine:
http://www.greenplastic.com/mt/mt-check.cgi
but http://www.greenplastic.com/mt/mt.cgi is no go.
Any ideas?

well http://www.greenplastic.com/mt/mt.cgi is working, it trhows an invalid login, and let me try to recover my password, of course i don't have an account, but it is working fine :)
Can you doublecheck from your side ?
kind regards
It seems like it's working from my end over here in Hawaii.
You sure it's not working? Maybe you have to clear your cache?
Hi Mixel,
Thanks for your response. Yes, I can see that too but once I put in my login details, that's where I get the 500 error.
hi John,
everytime I do an upgrade (and I just did the 4.25), my settings get messed up as well. The solution that always worked for me is to do a clean install of the /mt/ and /mt-staic/ directories. (Don't overwrite your styles sheets, of course, and keep copies of any custom plug-ins you are using.) This always has solved the problems I encounter after simply trying to "overwrite" the old files with the upgraded version.
good luck!
mongip,
thanks for your suggestion. I should have mentioned in my original post that I have tried twice now to do a fresh install in a different folder as if I were starting over brand new. Again, I can't get very far because of 500 errors.
I'm beginning to wonder if it's something with my server, but thought I would check here first.
When you tried that, did you also supply a fresh database? Also, what version are you using, OS or Pro?
okay.. actually, i just removed the config file and did a new install with a new database and everything appears to be working. maybe my old db was messed up?
well, it worked for a while and then all of a sudden I'm back to where I was. When I try to login to the dashboard, I am getting 500 errors. Even on a fresh install with a new db.
If anyone else has any thoughts, they would definitely be appreciated!
Hi Jonathan,
Is your issue fixed now?
I would be glad to have a look at it and see what's wrong.
Kind Regards,

Im getting frustrated trying to instal MT on a Mosso.com server. I've tried all the fixes I have been able to scrounge up, but no luck. I get the same 500 error. With the documentation, I have not been able to determine if I need an .htaccess file and if I do, what is suppose to be in it.
I followed the instructions in the video and the quick start installation documentation, but nothing worked.
There is a specific way it needs to be done on Mosso, to do with the version of Perl they use. See the last post in this thread:
https://manage.mosso.com/forum/posts/list/2263.page
Basically you need to edit /lib/mt/bootstrap.pm to indicate the path to your MT install.
There are also a few modules missing from their Perl install that you might want. I managed to get them all off CPAN and install in the extlib directory, but can package them up into a single zip if you'd like.
