Since Movable Type 4.25: no re-ordering of custom fields

Vote 0 Votes

After upgrading to 4.25.:
1. the custom-fields for Entries are not in the order they were in 4.24.
2. the re-order widget in the sidebar of the Edit Entry screen is no longer there.
3. After creating a new custom field you are no longer asked to refresh the Edit Entry page to re-order things.

Has anyone else observed this? Could it be a Movable Type issue or an installation/upgrade issue?

  • I have the same problem in Movable Type 4.25, new installation. The re-order widget in the sidebar of the Edit Entry screen is not there.

  • I just heard from my blog host that "Movable Type 4.25 does not provide for the re-ordering of custom-fields on the Edit Entry screen."

    What are Release Notes for?

  • In Movable Type 4.25, the "Reorder Fields" widget functionality has been incorporated directly into the "Display Options" widget on the "Edit Entry" page. If you edit an entry, click the "Display Options" link, and hover the mouse over one of the fields listed in the "Fields" section other than "Title" or "Text", you should see a tooltip which says "click-down and drag to move this field". Click the mouse down on one these fields and drag it up or down to a new position in the list to reorder the fields in the order desired, then click the "OK" button.

  • I think you might be looking for this link. That redirect that you hit was actually *my* fault and was implemented yesterday. That's the URL where the MT 4.2 release notes were, so I had 6A forward it to the new location instead of the link above as it should be.

Unfortunately, at this point, the Movable Type 4.25 Release Notes are still not release notes but instead developer checkin messages. Hopefully they'll remedy that situation soon.

  • I actually was lucky enough to find the commit message related to the issue but only because I knew what I was looking for:

Improved structure for fields/display options for compose screen.

  • Related to this thread, I have an install of 4.23 and the widget appears, but the dragging/drop function is missing or broken. The list of custom fields appears as a static list of text. Was this a bug that resulted in the interface change in 4.25? Or another problem, if so, any tips on fixing?

    thanks!

If you need to share template code, replace all the "<" signs with "<" or use this utility.
