Issue #1:
MT 4 introduced asset management which is one of the many new great features. I am puzzled though why the Manage Assets Quick Filters do not include "file" as an option. I have installations for clients who create extensive document libraries and I routinely create library listings using the [mt:Assets type="file" tag="mytag"] template tag. The type="file" does not appear to be documented but I found it looking at the data base records.
In addition, the Managing Assets documentation shows additional asset types such as Photos, Amazon Items, Flickr Photos, etc. I suspect these additional types were added via custom plugins.
Recommendation #1:
Add FILE as one of the filter "types" in the Manage Assets UI.
In the mean time, point me to the module/template(s) where I can add FILE as a selection. I've looked in the most obvious places like Asset.pm and asset templates and can find where a list of asset types are referenced but cannot find the simple list itself.
Issue #2:
I develop business websites using MT as a CMS where certain staff manage content.in their respective areas of responsibility. There are certain corporate images and files that are identified as assets which are used across the site (multiple Blogs). The documentation is very clear that assets are Blog based and cannot be accessed across Blogs. This is manageable but often very inconvenient.
Recommendation #2:
Add an option to make an uploaded asset Global in scope that can be accessed from the Create Entry/Page forms on any Blog.
Your help is greatly appreciated.

File a case for the missing quick filter. I can't help you with adding another filter at the moment. My primary computer had some kind of problem last night and I can't currently get at what I need. Ideally, though, you'd be adding it in with a plugin and not hacking source files.
You're right about the additional asset types having been registered by plugins; the asset system is extensible.
System-wide assets have already been brought up, and there are several technical reasons they're problematic(not to rule them out). If you want to join in on that discussion, you should join the mtos-dev mailing list or find the relevant bug in the Fogbugz system linked above.
Thanks for the response Su.
I'll visit the "bugs" site as you suggest. In the mean time, can you point me to a plugin I can clone then modify. I'm not equipped to develop one from scratch (a time management issue not technical). Or, point me to the module that has the simple list of standard asset types.
Thanks again.
