Hi everybody!
I'm ch81602 and I'm new to MT. I want to do MT alongside Wordpress because a lot of my favorite sites are operated through MT and I decided to get a good crack at managing MT.
I have some questions to ask to help managing MT.
1. I like this style you guys use for your forums. Where can I go to get this style for my MT?
2. How do I put a list of links to archive, home, about, etc. at the top of my style page?
3. Are there any styles that have a dinosaur theme to it? I honestly don't know how to make such themes for MT as good as you.
4. How will I change my permalinks the way Wordpress does it or I can't?
and finally
5. Are there any plugins that helps you with tag and keyword suggestions?
Well that's all I can think of for right now. If I have more questions in mind, I'll be sure to ask.
Reported on Movable Type 4.2
It's part of Movable Type Pro. Download it from movabletype.com (not .org).
Use a template set that has a toolbar. The Classic Blog template set doesn't have one, so there aren't any standard styles which support one, but if you download Movable Type Pro (which you can probably use for free, just look at the license on the site) you can use the Professional Website template set which has a toolbar. Other styles have one as well. Look for those template sets on plugins.movabletype.org
Probably not, but if you need one, there are a lot of people in the MT community who can make you one for not that much money.
In each archive, you specify a "mapping." You can customize it to be basically however you want using these characters. Unlike WordPress, every archive type can have its own mapping that is very customizable and it doesn't require you to change a htaccess file (you just republish in the CMS).
In the CMS, you don't need one. There already is an autocomplete field for tags built into the entry editor.
Just in addition to Mike's comments:
4) Unlike WP, MT publishes to static files (HTML) so there is no fiddling with htaccess, or permalinks etc, every entry by default has it's own permanent page.
5) I am working on an addition to my YUI editor plugin that suggests tags from your content using the Yahoo search APIs, is that something that would be of interest?
Yes. I'm interested in the plugin of yours. Right now I'm having a little bit of a hard time trying to get MT to work for me. Twice I gave up because it was too difficult for me to work on but with your help, I can give MT just one more try and see how that will work out.
What isn't working for you?
The styles. These things are totally different than the themes coming from WordPress. A Lot of times these styles are much too difficult to manage in comparison with the wordpress themes that are easier for me to handle than the MT styles.
To be honest, MT's styling system for non-technical users isn't a patch on WP's however, once you get involved and start playing around, it's wonderful and hugely powerful. It takes a good investment of time but it's well worth it as you can achieve almost anything!
I'm not that keen on MT's implementation of the layout in the CSS, but it's been a breeze to use the YUI Grids CSS instead, and reduces complexity somewhat.
That said, there is a fair amount of styles in the included style repositories, and there's also the theme generator (not the one on movalog, that's for 3) but I can't find the link at the moment, anyone else have it saved?
