Needed feature: User may edit his/her comment

Hello,

We are checking weather we can port our blog ( http://retecool.com ) into MT. We want to keep our currently existing possibility of being able to edit posts en comments on the front side.

As an extention to this, we would like to allow users to edit their comments at all times (like you can on Reddit). I've been looking into to the plugins, but I wonder: Is this possible at all to grant users such rights in MT?

The reason I want this is political. I do not want to be responsible for what anybody else says, and I want to leave this responsibility where it naturally belongs: at the writer of the comment. From this it follows that the commenter should be able to behave responsible and should be able to withdraw what was said without having to contact me and get my approval.

This feature isn't built in to MT, nor is there any plugins available to add it.

It would also probably require some changes to the CMS' editor that handles comments so that someone who has commenter permissions can log in and edit their comments, and nothing more.

That would be very nice. And the fact that it is a little complex might turn out to be a feature.

I mean, complex for the commenter. That's a bit of a treshold. And I learned there's a plugin to add [edit] knobs in the comments, which take you to the right place in the cms to edit them.

There is the Typepad Connect beta http://www.typepad.com/connect/ it allow you to edit your comment within the first 5 minutes. I think that this is about as close as you can get at the moment.

I'd like this feature too... users not being able to edit their own comments is kind of a showstopper.

Perhaps this is relevant, perhaps not - and maybe I'm misunderstanding things, but...

Elsewhere in this forum, the 'new message' posted notifications I get enable me to edit comments from other posters.

This is surely incorrect?

If you started the topic, then I guess it's a feature. You will keep the forum clean. Abuse of the provilege is dealt with socially.

I do not see my cursor in this reply form. This is surely incorrect?
My system: mac, osx10.5, browser is Camino (mozilla)
