I am using the Professional Template and do not know how to install the capability so someone can subscribe to the blog. On my other blogs, earlier templates, the RSS FEED was a widget, but i do not see that in available widgets with the Professional Template.

i am a beginner with Movable type

  • Mike, I do not understand how to activate the atom feed that is not deprecated, so people can subscribe by clicking on the little button and link.

    • The Atom feed is, by default, integrated into your blog templates. You'll find references to it in all of your published pages if you haven't changed the templates. When people go to your blog, don't worry, it'll be there on 4.2.

WRT RSS, follow the instructions in that link to create the RSS template, and put it where convenient for you on your sidebar, etc. You can also expose it to feed-detecting browsers and other software by mimicking the link used in the HTML Header template for the Atom feed.

  • Hi Mike, Here are the urls of my two blogs using the Professional Template; no invitation to subscribe is there. 4.21.

    http://www.starrypattern.com/starrypattern-blog/blog/

    http://www.acupunctureforpains.com/painfreeblog/blog/

I am not sure how to put objects on different parts of the blog like the sidebar, tho i can use the widget module to put widgets on the sidebar. I will look at Header template. I am happy to use Atom if I could find it. I know some css & html but i started with MT4 with the templates, not from the ground up, so I am missing some basics. thanks. Andrea

    • For what it's worth, your feed loads just fine when you add http://www.starrypattern.com/starrypattern-blog/blog/ to Google Reader. The syntax inside the page is correct for identifying your feed to any application that is properly designed for scanning HTML for feeds.

You should have an Atom feed called something like "News Feed" in your index templates. It's never been a widget, but rather has always been an index template.

If you need to share template code, replace all the "<" signs with "<" or use this utility.
