I installed the almost amazing Hybrid Pagination plugin by Brad Choate: http://plugins.movabletype.org/hybrid-pagination/. Unfortunately, I’m encountering some errors.
Error 1: fatal error: cannot redeclare isvalidemail() I solved this problem by enabling Trackbacks and then removing all references to Trackbacks in the templates. Odd, but it seems to have gotten rid of that message.
Error 2: Warning: Smarty error: unable to read resource: “mt:3 - Entries Loop” in /home/user/public_html/mt/php/extlib/smarty/libs/Smarty.class.php on line 1095
This problem is intractable and I have no idea to approach it. Any ideas on what this means and how I may find the root cause?

Bump. I'm totally at a standstill on this issue and could use any guidance on how to proceed.
You're probably going to have to send this issue to Brad himself, since these forums are for Movable Type, not 3rd party plugins.
