hey everyone,
for some reason movable type isn't showing the option to switch to the new universal/professional template set. i've updated from 4.1 to 4.2, and did a clean install, but nothing has worked. any ideas on how to fix this?

Are you saying when you click Refresh Blog Templates, there isn't an option to switch to a new templates set or that the template set you want isn't there?
there isn't an option to switch to a new template set. it has an option to restore back to the "default" and refresh current.
Are you using Movable Type Open Source or Professional?
i'm using the open source version.
Well... that would be the problem. It's part of the Professional package (which you can get a single, free license of at movabletype.com), not MT Open Source. MTOS only has, IIRC, one template set bundled with it by default. Head over to mt.com.
that would explain it. thanks for the tip. i'll get on that asap.
Also, be careful about installing too many template sets: I found that Mid-Century and Notepad chaos don't play nicely together, if both plugins are installed at the same time. Note that one or both may have been updated since I tried, but - drove me nuts a few weeks ago, before I clicked.
