I'm trying to learn how to use trackbacks, and it's not working. Mostly we're experimenting between my site and my girlfriend's site, and I've read everything I can on my end and think I have everything set correctly to send an outward trackback to her site when I make an entry that comments on one of her entries, but it's just not working. She thinks she has everything set correctly on her site (I'm Mac/Movable Type 4.1, she's PC/Wordpress), but nothing shows up at all. I send outbound trackbacks, and it looks like it works, but when I go to "manage trackbacks" is shows empty in every category.

The Manage Trackbacks screens are for TBs you've received. You won't find ones you've sent there. Those will be displayed on the entry edit screen when you go into one that sent one out.
As far as your seemingly not sending them, without links, everything's going to be speculation, but I would guess that your girlfriend doesn't have the TB auto-discovery code(generated by EntryTrackbackData) on her individual archive pages, which would result in you simply posting a link not producing anything. In such cases, you will be required to provide the Trackback URL yourself, assuming her templates make that link obvious(It involves the entry ID, so you won't likely be able to just guess it.)
