Yet in my account I see:

Movable Type 4.2, Commercial License, 5 Authors (for ProNet Members)
Movable Type 4.2, Community Solution, Custom License

Aren't these both now just MT Pro?

When I installed the first option I have this in my MT footer: Movable Type Commercial version 4.2-en with: Professional Pack 1.2

A colleague installed the MT Pro from the main download area and has Movable Type Pro version 4.2-en with: Community Pack 1.6, Professional Pack 1.2

It just seems this simplifying to MT Pro isn't completely updated in all locations - and now I'm curious if I should just download the Pro option from the main page and forget about what is in my MT Account?

The Movable Type 4.2, Commercial License (for ProNet) does not include the Community Pack in the archive file (at least the tar).

The Movable Type Pro Blogger Edition does.

Is there a reason why the community pack is not included in the ProNet version?

Everyone who previously purchased Movable Type 4.0 and 4.1 Commercial License will automatically be upgraded to Movable Type 4.2 under the same terms, but without the community features.

But also, everyone of those people will also be offered a free upgrade to Movable Type Pro 4.2 **with** the community features. Users are free to download and install MT Pro provided that they accept the new terms of service associated with this update.

Given that our licensing terms now include a limit of 5000 profiles, we didn't want to put anyone in a position where by virtue of our releasing new software and them upgrading, they would be in a position where all of a sudden they would be in violation of their terms of service. That would be bad -- a lesson we learned long ago.

So we decided to give everyone an option to continue using Movable Type Commercial under their existing terms, while still being able to take advantage of all the security and performance enhancements we had made to the core. While also giving them an option to MT Pro under new terms.

That is why customers see two products in their account: Movable Type 4.2 Commercial License, and Movable Type Pro 4.2.

Your mention of 5000 profiles limit, caught me though. For a client we have/had Movable Type 4.2, Community Solution, Custom License.

Is the CS = to Pro, plugin for plugin? And does CS have a limit for 5000 Profiles? Cause on Gothamist for instance, in MT3 we have 38k profiles.

Pate I had been experimenting with the OS version the last few months. Then I decided to I wanted the Custom Fields support only offered in the Professional Pack so I bought it.

Now I have downloaded and installed Movable Type Pro. I could whine about paying $100 for the Pro Pack and now getting it for free but I think that is counter-productive. :)

Right now, I am in the process of manually moving over all the templates out of my broken RC install (due to the Custom Fields upgrade bug) into my shiny new Pro install. And, then, hopefully, in the next few weeks, I will be able to finally re-launch the site I have been working on for the last few months.

So, as confusing as it all seems to be, I am still excited.

The price breakdown shows the price for 5 to 20 authors and then 5000 Community Profiles with the package, but an admin can give users author roles and publishing permissions. At what point is a user or community member considered an author that needs licensing? Can a user have any sort of posting permissions without counting towards the license costs?
