Is it possible to make them full content feeds - or at least change something to allow them to have more text.

There is a directory called "search_templates" in your mt directory that contains the templates you are looking for. Edit accordingly. One suggestion, though. In the Atom feed, you might want to change the <mt:EntryExcerpt> tag inside <content> to <mt:EntryBody>
