I've tried to have this question answered before, but never got a response. I want to install MT 4.1 onto my website, which is hosted by Hostgator.
There have been problems in the past regarding installing it correctly. The last time I tried, I had it installed, but couldn't enter ANY information. It's as if the entry fields were all grayed out.
Is there something special I need to do to get this to work properly? HG will fix it for $50.00, but I'm not about to spend that much money to find out it was one command line that got screwed up.
Any kind of help, any at all, would be greatly appreciated.

Wow - that is very odd. I have never heard of that. Is there a way you can share a screenshot? Are there any javascript errors on the page at all (anything in Firebug)? What browser are you using?
I guess the other question I have is where inside the app are you unable to enter information?
At the time, I was using Firefox 2. There were no javascript errors, just a 404 error.
As far as the entry fields, it's hard to explain even with a screenshot. Picture the field just below the last comment. Instead of being able to enter anything, your cursor just stood there. This would happen when I would try to make an entry. (a.k.a. no type-cursor).
As it has turned out, things are now working fine (beleive it or not). The instructions from the original MT installation did not work, so I followed the instructions at Super XM (http://www.superxm.com/2007/08/movable-type-4-installation-step-by-step-with-screenshots.html). I put all the files in one folder (instead of separating out cgi-bin from mt-static, etc.)
Again, things like this is why I didn't want to pay 50 bucks for service. Thank you, though.
I know this is old, but just FYI, I have had no problem installing MT on a Hostgator shared account (with the cgi-bin and mt-static in separate folders as per the conventional practice). Done it for myself a number of times and for someone else on another Hostgator server, so your problem is an odd one indeed.
