Archive strategies with Universal Template

Vote 0 Votes

Not sure if I should post this somewhere else, so please move this if it needs to be moved!

I was wondering if there was a reason that the Universal Template did away with the previous and next posts in the individual entries? I was thinking that perhaps it was because the template was to be used as business like website vs. a blog type site.

I was also wondering how MT users were dealing with archives and categories. Using Byrne's MajorDojo.com as an example, when I click into any of his categories, I can only see 6 entries at a time. I thought at first I could just hit the archives link at the bottom but it doesn't break the archives down into categories and then list the entries in that category, rather it's just the standard archive listing of all the posts.

I'm thinking maybe pagination might be a better way to deal with going backwards to see older posts or a category archives page but I was just wondering if this is the way it's meant to be when using the Universal Templates? How are others dealing with archiving and allowing your readers to go back in to read things?

  • Re: getting rid of entry next/previous links. This was for performance improvements. By removing those links MT will publish less and thus publish faster. They can always be re-added.

Re: category date-based pagination - this is an oversight and should be corrected. we intentionally only publish the most recent entries in a category and then should offer to the user the ability to go back in time via date-based archives. That needs to be fixed. Would you mind logging a bug? you can reference this topic in the report.

  • I sent a bug report.

I was thinking the reason it was omitted was for performance purposes but I wasn't sure since the recent entries block was still on all of the entry pages.

  • Any word on if this was fixed in the new beta?
